Anti-Gun Front Organization Masquerading as Rights Organization?
A reminder to look closer at organizations rather than taking them at their word.

The American Rifle and Pistol Association Announces Its National Membership Launch on Independence Day

Austin, TX, July 02, 2013 On the Fourth of July, The American Rifle and Pistol Association, Inc. launches a new, national movement on behalf of SANE™ Gun Ownership and Firearms Management

Independence Day, July 4, 2013, will mark the official public launch of The American Rifle and Pistol Association, Inc. (or R+P), amriflepistol.com, along with its portfolio non-profit organization, The American Rifle and Pistol Association Education Foundation, Inc.

R+P was founded upon the core belief that it is not only possible, but essential, to America's future and well-being, for every American to have their constitutionally guaranteed Second Amendment rights and freedoms fully protected, while at the same time working together to find and implement optimal solutions for increased public safety and the reduction of violent crime. Founded by a group of accomplished business executives in Austin, TX, who, in the shadow of recent devastating tragedies such as the horror witnessed last December in Newtown, Connecticut, have stepped forward to take concrete action as responsible gun owners themselves, recognizing the urgent need for a fresh, new, independent voice promoting the SANE™ use of firearms.

R+P was specifically created to offer a truly member-centric deliberative forum and educational portal for innovative ideas regarding SANE™ gun ownership and SANE™ firearms management. SANE™ is R+P's acronym which represents Safety first and foremost, Advocacy on behalf of its membership (not the firearms industry), the Social Networking of its members, and Education via a wealth of informational resources, available to all Americans, gun owners and non-gun owners alike.

Historically, the Nation Rifle Association (NRA) has been the most vocal organization on behalf of gun rights. However, it is debatable as to whether or not their members' voices are truly being heard. It is therefore central to R+P's mission to promote a new collaborative forum where each member's voice is not only heard, but also commands respect and action.

Robert Gelinas, President of R+P stated, "R+P will offer a truly independent third voice to the highly polarized national firearms conversation, a voice of reason and responsibility, not dictated by any top-down central authority or any special interest." He further stated, "Over 90% of responsible gun owners in America don't have their voices heard or represented by membership in any national organization. Consequently, many of us have felt unrepresented for far too long. The time has come for us to be heard. When our fellow citizens join R+P, they are not just joining an Association; they will be joining a true grass-roots movement."

Leveraging the full power of the online digital world, R+P turns their vision into reality by providing a vibrant online social community, riflepistolsocial.com, where responsible gun owners across the nation can connect and network, share ideas, dispel misinformation, get factual information, post photos and videos, find resources – and most importantly, enjoy the opportunity to freely and civilly discuss real-world solutions regarding safe gun ownership.

R+P's vision does not stop with its online presence. Its non-profit arm, The American Rifle and Pistol Association Education Foundation was also created to help fund a broad array of educational programs to vigorously promote gun safety as well as to develop training and certification programs for firearms-related hunting, sporting, competition, and recreational activities. In particular, R+P intends to make a concerted effort to reach out to women, who represent the fasted growing group of gun owners today.

It is also R+P's intention to work with authors, subject matter experts, and education professionals to develop and sponsor a more complete academic curriculum for gun safety and lawful ownership.

Something stinks...

Statement of Principles - Core Concepts

R+P fully supports every citizen’s right to keep and bear arms, as guaranteed by the 2nd Amendment of the US Constitution. However, R+P strongly supports restriction of this right for ...

Quote
R+P believes that it is each state’s right to determine for benefit of its citizens any prerequisites, qualifications, documentation, training, and levels of demonstrated proficiency, if any, deemed necessary for lawful use of differing types of weapon systems.

In the contentious firearms debate, there is often no true debate at all; rather, one faction eschewing any and all restrictions (even if sensible), and an opposing faction that strives for outright prohibition or de facto prohibition via regulation. R+P aligns itself with neither polarized faction, believing that optimal firearms management solutions can exist where genuine gun rights are protected while public safety is assured.

Some of what they say (like "increasing CCW") sounds OK but a lot of it also sounds like the same old "common sense gun control" we have heard before.  Who is behind this group?
