Post by: LivingDeadGirl on May 25, 2016, 11:08:21 AM
In 2014, Michael Jace, played Julian on the TV series, The Shield, fatally shot his wife. Prosecution is claiming the murder was premeditated, and the defense is arguing mental health issues. The trial started this week with the testimony of his children, then 5 and 8, who saw the shooting.

'Shield' actor Michael Jace convicted of wife's murder

Quote
Actor Michael Jace, who played a police officer on the hit FX drama "The Shield," was convicted Tuesday of shooting his wife at their Los Angeles home in front of the couple's two young sons.

A jury of six women and six men deliberated about two hours before finding Jace, 53, guilty of second-degree murder in the May 19, 2014, death of April Jace, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office. Jurors also found true the special allegation that Jace used a firearm.

Jace faces up to 40 years to life in prison at his sentencing, scheduled for June 10.
The actor was upset that his wife wanted a divorce and was obsessed with the belief that she was seeing someone else, Deputy District Attorney Tannaz Mokayef told jurors during the trial. When April Jace arrived around 8 that night at the couple's house in the city's Hyde Park neighborhood, he shot her once in the back, the prosecutor said.

Jace then shot her two more times in the legs in front of their sons, who were 8 and 5 at the time.

I think two hours is pretty quick for a jury to come back on a murder trial.  They were saying on the news yesterday that the verdict (and the speed) had a lot to do with testimony about how he killed her, taunted her, etc.  Something about telling her that "if she liked to run, run to heaven" before he shot her.  They also said he claimed that he got the gun out to off himself, but pussed out and shot her instead, then he said that he really only meant to shoot her in the leg, but that doesn't match what the article says happened.

:o What would it have taken to get a 1st degree conviction?  California... at least they tacked on an extra charge for the particular tool that he used to kill her  ::)

After his role as a gay cop, I bet he'll be real popular in prison  :-*
