Raytheon Tests New Electric Gun
« on: April 05, 2017, 04:40:08 PM »
According to a press release from yesterday, Raytheon tested a new electric weapon for its Phalanx system. The new weapon allows soldiers to vary the rate of the fire. The Phalanx is a 20mm gun system that uses a computer to acquire, track and fire on enemy targets.

This new system is lighter, cheaper, and more reliable. According to the Rick McDonnell, the director of the Close-In Defense Solutions program, "Phalanx is a weapon of last resort and the electric gun's larger magazine will allow the U.S. and its allies to stay in the fight longer."
