What do you want to see from the 2013 SHOT Show?
« on: November 17, 2012, 08:45:21 PM »
The 2013 NSSF SHOT Show will be here before you know it.

The Shooting, Hunting and Outdoor Trades Show is the largest show of its kind in the industry and is where the biggest and best manufacturers and vendors showcase their latest developments, often before they're even available on the shelves.

GunLink will be there to cover it all and we want to know what you want to see from the show.  Hunting gear? Tactical rifles? CCW handguns?  The latest ammo?  Law enforcement gear?

Let us know in this thread or on twitter (@GunLink) what you want to see us cover and we'll do our best to cover it for you.

New carry options.  Guns, holsters, ammo, clothing, etc.  Time for an upgrade!

Tactical rifles!  There seems to be a lot of new cool stuff in area of sniper rifles, as companies are finally bringing bolt guns into the 21st century.  Also, the never ending stream of new AR15 products is always entertaining.  Maybe we could find out if Remington/Bushmaster/Freedom Group will ever do right by consumers and actually make the ACR worth buying, and finally roll out some options...

Optics are always interesting.  It's another area where there is always a steady pace of development.

Ammo.  No one ever covers ammo at the SHOW Show...  It's getting more expensive by the day, and it get little to no attention from firearm journalist.  Just making a suggestion, there could be something interesting there.

BOYCOT Zombie anything!!!  The "zombie" trend is F'n retarded!  Don't even acknowledge it's presence, it needs to go away.  It panders to idiots, and make gun owners look like a bunch of morons.

A photog interested in optics?  Say it ain't so.

Noted, but ammo is tricky to cover, especially at something like SHOT.  Most of what you have to go on is just on-paper ballistics that the manufacturer provides and you can get that just about anywhere.  It's a good place to get an idea of what's out there and what's coming, but the "important" details are somewhat lacking.  And they're not pretty - one picture of a boolit looks about the same as the next

You might get a chance to fire a couple rounds at the range day, but just a couple rounds doesn't tell you much.  Maybe if you hit your target on the long range shots you'll get an idea that it's accurate but if you miss who's to say that it's not because you just humped across the desert with all your gear, you're tired and jacked up on coffee and shooting a dirty gun that someone else sighted in?  Not much gel testing going on there either.

Agreed.  It was cute when it was an "inside" thing that was half joke and half easy way to say "something scary that's coming for you" but it's really exploded and played itself out as far as marketing ploys go.

It's still fun to watch zombie movies, play zombie video games, etc. but it certainly doesn't do much to get rid of the "little boys playing guns" image.

One of our twitter followers mentioned that he is a visually impaired shooter.  We'll be sure to cover any shooting products we find that could help to meet his shooting needs.

Keep the suggestions coming!

Not sure what we thought would happen, but we tried linking the topic above with this topic and now they're both here.  Guess we know what that button does now.

Thanks for the input, we added Morovision to our show planner.  We'll pay them a visit and let you know what we turn up.

Keep those suggestions coming.

We're looking forward to seeing the LaserLyte "train anywhere" targets.  They'll be set up in booth #341.

Be sure to let us know what products, vendors, etc. that you're interested in so we can cover them for you.

Are there gun rights groups there too or just companies?  With everything that is going on right now it would be nice to hear what our side is doing to stop more gun control.  What is the industry doing/saying, are 'assault weapon' builders taking action, are companies that build hunting guns getting behind them?  With a new ban hanging over their heads are companies going to back off R&D on items they might not even be able to sell?  I am not trying to sound defeated but I just want to know what the industry's take is on the current major push for gun control is?

We got a chance to stop by and try out the LaserLyte trainer (and even picked one up for ourselves).  We also found out about a couple other similar systems that we were unaware of.  Keep your eyes on the forums and the blog for a comparison and reviews.

We also had a chance to stop by and visit the Sticky Holsters folks.  It seems like a great idea.  We also picked one up that will fit several of the pistols we have around.  We'll use it for a while and let you know how it turns out.

Does a $20k+ rifle system count?

Tracking Point Xact System Offers Amazing Update to Long Range Shooting

The first documented use of firearms was somewhere in circa-12th-century China.  While it’s quite clear that firearms and their accessories have come a long way since the first gunpowder-filled tubes, the basic principles remain the same: ignite the propellant and the expanding gasses send the projectile out of the business end of the barrel.  For the most part, any advancements since then have been been to make firearms more effective in terms of power, portability and accuracy.  A big advancement in the accuracy department was on display from Tracking Point at the 2013 SHOT Show.

Tracking Point’s XactSystem is a Precision Guided Firearm (PGF), which the company describe as “fighter-jet-style, lock-and-launch technology into a rifle system.”  This closed-loop system consists of ultra-consistent ammo loaded by Barnes, a precision Surgeon Rifle with a ...

Sticky Holsters are getting a, in our opinion, nice update with the addition of a Kydex insert that gives them a little bit of extra structure.  This was unveiled at the 2014 SHOT Show.  Check it out the Sticky Holster update here.

We visited Moro Vision again this year to see what was new.  Chris gave us a run down of some of their products and Primer got a few great shots from their booth showcasing the improved versatility of the PVS-14.
