We have enabled a new Calendar feature on the forums.  The calendar is available through via the CALENDAR link among the forum tools in the menu below your user info and above the forum content.

For the time being, it is only available to users with Industry Member status, although that will change in the future if the idea takes off.  The first change will be to allow all members to be able to view the calendar but only industry members will be allowed to add events to the calendar.  Based on feedback, we will consider whether or not to allow other users to add their own events such as local shoots, gun shows, etc.

There are two ways to add events to the calendar.  At the bottom of topic pages there is a “Link to Calendar” button that will bring up the interface to edit the first post of the topic, including event dates.  Secondly, from within the calendar itself users with the appropriate access can click on a date to begin the event adding process. 

Currently, events do not need to be linked to a post but the option to do so is there.  This is something else we are seeking feedback on.  If we start getting too many events added that are lacking in useful details, those events will be deleted or the option to add events without related forum posts will be disabled.

Industry Members, please take a look at the calendar and give us feedback either in this post or through a site IM.  The Industry Talk board is also another option which only Industry Members can access.  Let us know if this feature would be useful for you to share your events, what would make it better, etc.

Forum users, let us know if you think that this would be useful to you for finding out about firearms related events like shows, training seminars, etc.  We are also looking for feedback on how much stuff we should have on the calendar.  Do you only want to see huge events or do you want to see every little thing?  Trade shows? Gun Shows? Training events? Shoots and competitions?  Special sales from industry members?  What else?

What kind of access to the calendar do you think is appropriate?  Should the ability to add events be restricted to Industry Members or should anyone be allowed to add them?  Obviously if only Industry Members are allowed to add events we may miss out on smaller local events (or require that someone involved with the event get Industry Member status).  If anyone is allowed to add events we may end up being overrun with everything from so-and-so’s birthday to yard sales where someone is trying to unload their old hunting equipment.

Calendar now visible to all forum members.  Industry members can create events.
