Venezuela to arm Loyalists

In 2012, Venezuela passed legislation that prohibited civilian ownership of firearms. During the summer last year, the government increased its buybacks and confiscations. Now, the leader of Venezuela is going to arm roughly 400,000 loyalists to keep the "imperialist aggression" at bay.

A perfect example for why a country needs civilian gun ownership (at least, in my opinion), we can see that in 2012 the murder rate in Venezuela was 73 murders per 100,000 people. In 2016, four years after the ban, that rate increased to 91.8 per 100,000 people. Compare this to the US, which was 5 per 100,000. If getting rid of guns is supposed to decrease violence, why then did the homicide rate increase while ours is decreasing with more private gun ownership?

Quote
The excessive ambition of [our] enemies threatens the peace and stability by carrying out a criminal agenda loaded with hate that includes terrorist acts, disturbances, looting, vandalism, different forms of violence against innocent people and public health facilities," Defense Minister Vladimir Padrino Lopez said of the unrest, Fox News reported. He went on to say the protests are creating an "anxiety in the public, anarchy and chaos, with the ignoble aim of toppling the democratic government."

On top of the food/energy/everything shortage in the country, and the opposition movement continuously growing, how long until there is a full out civil war or military action against the opposition? Do you think this can be used to show how socialism just cannot work in the real world?
