A seventh grader, Zachary Bowlin, in Trenton, OH has been suspended for 10 days for "liking" an Instagram photo of an airsoft gun that was posted by another student.
According to Bowlin, he liked the picture one night and the next morning at school, he was called to office where he was patted down and then sent home. The reason officially stated, "Liking a post on social media that indicated potential school violence."
The superintendent, Russ Fussnecker, made a statement.
'I assure you that any social media threat will be taken serious, including those who 'like' the post when it potentially endangers the health and safety of students or adversely affects the educational process.'
Fussnecker also claimed that students stayed home the day Bowlin was suspended because they were uncomfortable with the photo that was liked.
The suspension has been revoked, however, the student who posted the photo of the airsoft guns is still suspended.
