I came across this article today. A group of gun control activists in Chicago are filing a lawsuit against Lyons, Riverdale and Lincolnwood for violating the civil rights of the citizens that live in the largely black neighborhoods in Chicago. If you live under a rock, you may not know that Chicago has seen a lot of gang violence and a spike in homicides in recent years. until recently, it was also illegal to have firearms in the city limits, even in your own home for self-defense. You may asking yourself, how are these three communities violating civil rights? Their answer: gun stores aren't doing enough to make sure criminals can't buy guns.

In case you didn't know, to purchase a weapon in the great state of Illinois, a person must first apply for a Firearm Owners ID card, which is issued by the state police after state and federal background checks. These ID cards are also only issued to in-state residents that have a valid IL driver's license or state ID. You must present this Firearm Owners ID card when purchasing firearms and/or ammunition at a gun store. Then, just as everywhere else in the US, the buyer must fill out the Form 4473 and the gun store calls the NICS to conduct yet another background check. After that is done, there is a 24 hour waiting period for rifles and shotguns and a 72 hour waiting period for handguns.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out. It should be dismissed because it's ludicrous. What are your thoughts?

There's been 230 homicides in CHicago this year alone and 1355 shooting victims this year.

Also saw that over 2000 people have ben arrested on gun charges and 3400 illegal guns have been seized by law enforcement. Some in the police department said 75% of the people arrested in Jan-Mar for gun related charges are out already.
