2018 NRA Board of Directors Voting
« on: January 11, 2018, 10:46:53 AM »
Voting National Rifle Association members (those with 5+ consecutive years of membership or fully paid life members) should be getting their ballots soon in their NRA magazines.  This is your annual big opportunity to shape the NRA's policies.

Lots of people complain about "the NRA does this" or "the NRA doesn't do that" so they either quit or don't join at all. This does nothing at all to make the organization better and, if anything, makes it trend more in that direction of questionable decisions and compromise on Second Amendment issues.

Voting on the NRA directors is how the organization - which ostensibly acts at the discretion of the membership - chooses its leaders who shape their decisions and positions (in addition to hearing from members through phone calls, emails, and letters).

How NRA Voting Works
Each year, one third of the NRA Board of Directors seats come up for election. That is, any given Board member must be re-elected or replaced every three years.

Every voting member can vote for up to 25 potential board members out of however many are on the ballot.  You do not have to cast all 25 of your votes. The seats up for grabs are filled by the candidates with the most votes.  Therefore, unless there are 25 people that you really want to be on the board, you should not cast all 25 of your votes as that will water down the pool of votes and potentially harm the chances of your chosen candidates.

You should vote for only the candidates that you want to see make it to the NRA Board of Directors.

Who Do I Vote For?
Like any other election, this is a choice you have to make on your own through your own research. Once you get your ballot with the names on it, look them up, find out what they stand for, and make your decisions. There are some solid pro-2A people on the board already and running for new positions on the board.  There are also some questionable characters already on the Board and, invariably, shady candidates that would pull the organization away from staunchly defending the constitutional right to keep and bear arms.

That being said, GunLink does endorse a couple of NRA Board of Directors candidates.

The first is Adam Kraut.  GunLink forum member SuperMoose has already been working to change the NRA from the outside before even making it to the board.  We like Adam's work for the defense of gun rights, his take on modern firearms and their purpose, as well as his work and positions on NFA topics.  Learn more about Adam Kraut on his website at http://www.adamkraut.com/

We also like Tim Knight. Tim is another solid defender of the Second Amendment who has been working at it for some time with his grassroots efforts, including being instrumental in the 2013 Colorado Recall effort following passage of draconian party-line anti-gun legislation. NRA always has a large presence at SHOT Show. At least one individual who will be on the ballot has mentioned getting together with us. They are pretty open and willing to answer questions from anyone, but if someone has questions they'd like us to ask, let us know and we can find out and post the answers.
