Holster wear on clothing
« on: September 03, 2014, 08:23:09 PM »
What do people normally do about the wear and tear that carrying a gun can put on your clothes?  Stuffing a big foreign object down your pants and sitting on it, walking around with it, driving with it, etc is a lot of pointy corners, sharp edges and grippy grips poking into and rubbing against your clothes.

I've started reinforcing my jeans by putting a patch of jean material inside around 4-6 o'clock.  It gives another layer of stuff to wear away at instaed of going right through your pants.  Anyone else do this?  Any other tricks for not tearing up your clothes when you carry?

Never had any issues, a good holster should prevent wear on the clothing. Biggest issues I have seen is going through cheaper belts, a nice heavy duty gun belt is almost a must for a large firearm OWB.

We tried the new Palmetto State Armory barrel for CCW.  It was protected from the body by the holster, but the thread protector extended well past the end of the Kydex shell of the holster.  After a day or two of trying that, the exposed barrel was obviously roughing up the inside of the pants.  It is not hard to see how that could wear a hole through the material eventually.

A longer pistol like that with a extended barrel that has an exposed knurled thread protector may not be ideal for CCW, however.  With a well made holster that fully protects any sharp corners or edges on the firearm should adequately protect both the pistol and the clothing so that spot would not be the first to wear out and ruin your clothes.
