Ruger 22/45 lite slide release has to be manually operated
« on: September 20, 2017, 12:23:26 PM »
I got a 22/45 lite recently and the slide release seems like it's acting odd.  Instead of being like most pistols where, when you insert a loaded mag and pull the slide, the bolt closes, the bolt only closes when I either just push the release down or pull the bolt back AND push the bolt stop down.

Is there supposed to be spring pressure that "defaults" the bolt stop to the down position so that you can close the bolt by just "slingshotting" it, or is this just how the 22/45 works?

Other than that, it's a fun little pistol.

That is normal operation for 22/45 models.  There is no spring there to provide pressure to push the bolt stop downward and, on top of that, there is a ball detent on the bolt stop button.  Doing the slingshot mod will make it so that the bolt stop will fall back down by gravity when you pull the bolt back instead of locking in the up position.
