Title: Appleseed Update from 'Fred'
Post by: GunLink on March 14, 2013, 04:43:10 PM
Below is an update message from Appleseed's 'Fred' that I figured might be of interest.  It sounds like there is no time like the present to get involved.

I think that this (http://appleseedinfo.org/smf/index.php?topic=34507) might be the thread he references (?).

Greeting, from Fred!

And, I have good news!

There's never been a better time to attend - or schedule - an Instructor Boot Camp, because we are eliminating all fees for IBCs!

Our financial picture has improved enough that we can remove this stumbling block to advancing as an instructor.  We're doing it for two reasons:

The most obvious is to build up our instructor corps.  Right now there's an ammo shortage, but it won't last forever, and then we're going to have thousands of new rifle owners to turn into Riflemen.

As you may have seen, Marlin just announced an Appleseed-branded LTR version of its 795 rifle, and every one sold through the 4th of July comes with a free Appleseed shoot certificate, so there's even more shooters.  Our Patriot's Day events should be great for recruiting new Orange Hats, and an IBC is the way to get them up to speed and standards, and contributing quickly.

Another reason is to build the Appleseed community.  It's often said "Appleseeders are the best people in the country" and it's true.  An IBC is a great way to learn more about your fellow instructors, without the pressure of a firing line to run.  The IBC can both build local teamwork, and get cross-pollination going with instructors from other ranges and areas.  A little fellowship mixed with the marksmanship and history can go a long way.

Now, reference that "ammo shortage" we're all concerned about, as effecting numbers in our program. I suggest you take a look at what I call "The Virginia Plan" - you'll find it at http://appleseedinfo.org/smf/index.php?topic=34489.0;topicseen - it will take a team effort to overcome this, and that post lays out how to do it. Get your State Coordinator to working up a plan like this, for YOUR state!

More news of interest! We just received FULL-SIZE REDCOAT TARGETS, so for April 19th you can shoot a full-distance "Redcoat" if you have the facilities. These targets are a full-size version of the current reduced redcoat silhouette, and can be shot at 100 to 500 yards. To request some for April 19th Appleseeds, simply repost your supply request, asking for X quantity. I think these would also add considerably to an Appleseed table display at a gun show or elsewhere. These targets will also be available thru the Home Range Store for purchase.

Thank you, as always, for what you do.  I look forward to saying that to more instructors every year.

Fred
