Today, FBI Director James Comey is at a Senate Judiciary Hearing today about the Clinton email investigation, the Anthony Weiner laptop, Russian interference in the election, and the Trump-Russia investigation.
After lots of questions that Comey could not answer and then the same questions being asked with emphasis on a different word (to make it sound different? and still not being answered, Senator Blumenthal decided this was an appropriate forum to ask what Comey thought about Universal background checks.
Blumenthal has an F rating from the NRA, has voted to ban high capacity magaiznes, supports the ban of all gun sales without a complete background check no matter how long it takes, supported legislation that would prohibit anyone on the terrorist watchlist from purchasing a firearm, wants a background check to purchase ammunition, etc.
In short, Comey's answer was along the lines of "we need to know as much as possible about the criminals trying to purchase firearms". Blumenthal said he took that answer as a yes. Comey did not respond.
I'm assuming Comey is knowledgeable and knows that criminals do not normally purchase their firearms and that a background check does not stop someone that lacks a criminal history like that guy in VA who was fired and decided to shoot his former co-workers on live TV. But, he didn't really answer the question at all in my opinion.
Do you think this was a "yes" answer?
