you might have dismissed previews for the movie Miss Sloane that was released in the US on November 25, in just in time for the long holiday weekend in a limited market and opened nationally December 9.
The initial trailers were vague, suggesting only a political drama. Later trails included tag lines such as "The movie the NRA does not want you to see". The general plot is that the main character, Miss Sloane is a lobbyist that is trying to pass a universal background check bill. When a reporter for the Washington Post asked the director if he consulted with any gun rights groups, either pro or anti, the director said,
"...the film is not political in its intent. It’s political in its milieu and it’s political in its, you know, the background of the story. But it’s more about political process to me.”
As mentioned in the title, the movie tanked. Even so, the lead actress, Jessica Chastain, has been nominated for Golden Globe for best actress. She previously one a Golden Globe for Zero Dark Thirty. Makes you wonder if its for the performance or the topic?
Depending on the webpage you look at, the budget for movie was anywhere between $13 - $18 million dollars. And according to The Numbers, the movie has barely made $3 million since November 25th. On top of that, according to an article from FoxNews, they only expected to earn $5 million at the box office. I don't know why one would make a movie that isn't expected to at least break even? Do they really think DVD sales are going to be make up the other $8 million?
