Whether it's a natural disaster, some sort of attack, your neighborhood is on fire, the zombies are coming or whatever, it's a good idea to have a "go bag" or "bug out bag" that you can quickly grab as you're heading out the door for some indeterminate amount of time. FEMA even has a page up on Ready.gov with some ideas for what to put in your disaster kit (http://www.ready.gov/build-a-kit).
What are some ideas for good things to take with you if you have to "bug out"?
-
I need to make one of these.
-
I should probably look. I honestly can't remember what we put in ours.
-
Remember two is one and one is none
-
Does anyone change items in their bug-out bag depending on the season? Like wool socks in the winter and cotton socks in the summer?
-
Yeah, I change the stuff in it seasonally. Too bad the seasons are closer to sports seasons than weather seasons. I should knock the dust off the BoB and take a peak in there. Probably full of expired MREs and clothes that no longer fit. I know of a certain item in it that was expensive to operate before but would be outrageously so given the current market.
Should we reevaluate our BoBs based on the ammo market? .22 in lean times, the big boys when things are good? :D
-
If you need to make use of a BoB I wouldn't be worried about the cost of ammo!

Depends on what you mean by "make use of a BoB". You mean don't worry about the cost of *while* you're making use of it to "bug out" (i.e. during an emergency) or making use of it as in having one and preparing for an emergency?
I guess that during a Red Dawn With Zombies (RDWZ? :o) situation, you need ammo whether you're having to trade your gold coins for it, pay through the nose for it, grab it off an abandoned shelf or whatever.
If you're going to have a firearm in your prep gear, thinking in advance of ammo price while gathering supplies ahead of time and availability before/during/after an emergency could certainly be a concern.
-
I'm always thinking worse possible situation including RDWZ. You are correct thinking about this in advance is useful. Most peppers, I'm sure, weigh options over and over again? Is there a ammo caliber that seems to be in abundance but not much demand? 44 mags have not fluctuated much but are expensive on any given day.
-
At least you can find 44s in stock at the store right now.

Where? :o
-
Pretty sure it was in stock last time I was in Walmart. Along with 243, shotgun shells, and some other expensive caliber.
-
Every time I'm in walmart. What you will not find are 9mm 38 special .380 auto or .22LR
-
I can't find 223 in walmart anymore either.
-
You will not find it anytime soon
-
The Wal-Mart here now had 223 frequently. I still can't find 22 anywhere
